2nd Conference on Health Promoting Hospitals & Health Services in Korea

 

 

The HPH Network of the Republic of Korea held the 2nd Conference on Health Promoting Hospitals & Health Services in SMG-SNU Boramae Medical Center on Nov. 15, 2012.

 

As Korea has made remarkable progress in tobacco-control policy since 1995 with the National Health Promotion Act enacted and there was also a campaign for smoke-free hospital promoted by ministry of health & welfare recently, the theme of this conference was decided on 'International trend of tobacco-free policy, seeking a Korean model'

More than 170 participants including health care managers, academics, health professionals and representatives from local authorities were at the conference. Jong-Hoon Chung, the President of the Korea HPH Association, stared the conference my giving an opening speech, Jung-Bae Park, Head of Health Promoting Dept. of the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Korea delivered a congratulatory remark and Chul-Hee Lee, CEO of SMG-SNU Boramae Medical Center, gave a welcoming speech.

Cornel Raduo-Loghin, the Director of Policy and Strategy of ENSP(European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention) was invited as a keynote speaker and he made a presentation with the topic 'Is health really achieved without tobacco control?'. Many people were inspired to learn the advanced tobacco-control policy and tobacco-free activities and became interested expecially in joining the ENSH Gold Forum which provides a learning and sharing the practice and access on key aspects of implementation on tobacco free policies.

 

Furthermore, three of the Korea HPH Network committee members gave their presentations with the topics of 'A study on advanced model and sustainable development of HPH in Korea', 'Introduction of ENSH and HPH tobacco-free policy' and 'Health Promotion for the cancer survivors'. Following this, six members from the Korea HPH Network also made their presentation, sharing successful projects and experiences of Health Promotion activities to support our healthy and vital lifes.

The Korea HPH Network expects that more people is able to understand the concept of HPH and it provides further inspiration and insight into the significant theme of health promotion after this conference.

 

 

The Korea HPH Network Health Promotion Activity- Baseball League

On November 26, 2011, the 1st Korea HPH Network Health Promotion Activity, baseball game took place at Andong Medical Center, in Andong City, Korea, hosted by Korea HPH Association and sponsored by the Korea Association of Regional Public Hospitals and Andong Medical Center. It was the 1st sport event among medical professionals of the Korea HPH Network.

 

 

Hyun-Su Shin, the President of Korea HPH Network Association and Jong-Hoon Chung, the Vice-President of Korea HPH Network Association announced the opening ceremony at 9AM and the baseball game lasted until 5PM. The main aim of this sport event was to establish conditions for the development of a healthy and safe workplace, and to support health promotion activities of staff. Participating in sports will have better health gains for the staff and their patients as well as deliver more health promotion services.

 

 

 

120 players, consisted of medical professionals from six Korean hospitals located in different cities over Korea participated in the game, and their colleagues and family members had a fruitful time, cheering the game. It was a great opportunity for Korean health professionals to gain insight and share inspiration in the area of Health Promotion in hospitals and health services, which will promote collaboration among the Korea HPH Network members as well.  

The 1st General Assembly of the Korea HPH Association

The Korea HPH Association was established and the 1st General Assembly took place in Seoul, Korea on Nov. 24, 2011. 25 local hospital representatives of the Korea HPH Network members and 6 committee members of the Korea HPH Network attended the meeting.

         

Hyun-Su Shin, the President of Andong Medical Center was elected as the 1st President of the Korea HPH Association, and gave an opening speech, identifying the vision to better health gain by improving the quality of health care, the relationship between hospitals and health services, the community and the environment, and the conditions for and satisfaction of patients, relatives and staff. He also stated the mission of the Korea HPH Network, to work towards incorporating the concepts, values, strategies and standards of health promotion into the hospitals and health service. At last, he stressed challenges lie ahead and changes needed for the benefits of HPH on staff, patients and community in Korea.

 

The policy of the Korea HPH Association and the 2012 HPH Network action plan were discussed and approved in all agreement. The action plan included, increasing the number of the Korea HPH Network members and establishing Tobacco Free hospitals. For the promotional goal, detailed action tasks were planned; developing a website of the Korea HPH Network, publishing a newsletter on a regular basis, and the HPH publications translated in Korean. The plan also included conducting HPH conferences and providing educational programs for the medical professionals. The hospital representatives were very stimulated in implementing the 2012 HPH action plan and expressed their excitement in making efforts to advocate the action plan from the management level to service providers, patients, and ultimately the community in Korea.

 

 1st Conference on Health Promoting Hospitals & Health Services in Korea  

 The 1st Conference on Health Promoting Hospitals & Health Services in Korea was held successfully in Seoul, Korea on Nov. 24, 2011. It was hosted by the Korea HPH Association and sponsored by Ministry of Health and Welfare of Korea.

 

It drew around 210 participants in total. Among the participants were health care managers, academics, health professionals and representatives from local health authorities. The purpose of this Conference was to bring about key knowledge on the HPH concept and its benefits to a wider Korean healthcare environment needed to develop HPH in Korea.

 

Hyun-Su Shin, the President of the Korea HPH Association started the conference by giving an inspiring opening speech, Dong-Gyo Yang, Head of Health Promoting Dept. of the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Korea delivered a congratulatory remark. Dong-Won Lee, the National Coordinator gave a presentation on an overview of the Korea HPH Network. Hai-Rim Shin, Team Leader of NHP (Noncommunicable Diseases and Health Promotion), WHO WPRO, gave an inspiring keynote speech and a presentation on WHO strategy on health setting approach for Health Promoting Hospitals.

   

                                                                                                                 

 Among others the participants included Jong-Hoon Chung, the Vice-President of the Korea HPH Association, and Hong-Ja Jung, Secretary-General of the Korea Association of Regional Public Hospitals, and Young Hur, Secretary-General of Korea Health Promotion Foundation.

 

 Three of the Korea HPH Network committee members conducted presentations, introducing the concept of HPH spirit and educating the health care professionals of the benefits of HPH on staff, patients and community in all. The subjects covered understanding the concept of HPH, integrating the concept into the hospitals and health services, and utilizing ‘Manual and self-assessment forms’ in the hospitals.

 

 Furthermore, seven of the Korea HPH Network hospitals and health organization presented their innovative HP project models, implementation and progress. The topics covered in the area of ‘Promoting a Healthy Workplace', ‘Continuity and Cooperation’, and ‘Patient Information and Intervention’. They presented their exciting projects and experiences in sharing significant project model and promoting collaboration among hospitals and health services of the Korea HPH Network. The Korea HPH Network members look forward to a fruitful collaboration after this inspiring and stimulating Conference for the benefit of patients, staff and communities all over Korea.
